Crans-Montana: when crisis management fails the families

Following the unexpected meeting two days ago between a grieving mother and the Moretti couple, tensions escalated dramatically yesterday in Sion. During the couple’s fourth court hearing, anger among some relatives nearly erupted into a physical assault. The event highlights times when crisis management fails the families.

Today, on page three of Il Corriere del Ticino, Patrick Trancu examines the crisis through the lens of management and communication failures by the Swiss Confederation. His interview underscores a critical point: recovery must begin by placing families at the center, while simultaneously rethinking the legislative and operational framework for managing major critical events.

Our thanks to journalist Martina Salvini for the interview, and to editor Paride Pelli and Corriere del Ticino for their commitment to deepening public understanding of these complex issues.

Switzerland is not managing this tragedy well. Yet it is equally important to remember that Italy still lacks both a structured national crisis-management organization and a first-tier legislative framework for handling major crises — a gap we have been highlighting for years.

At moments like these, crisis management is not only about response. It is about dignity, clarity, accountability, and the ability to care for those who bear the greatest burden.
