Preparing for emergencies to avoid crises

Last week, we promoted and participated in an informal meeting with the mayor and civil protection councillor of a municipality in northern Italy to start the process of organising a full-scale exercise on behalf of a client in the chemical sector, with plants subject to Seveso regulations. Public-private collaboration in the organisation of exercises of this nature is essential to create the necessary harmony and mutual knowledge, crucial elements in emergency contexts. And to prevent an emergencies from turning into a crises.

Organizing an exercise of this magnitude is a process that is as fascinating as it is complex: it takes about three months of work and the involvement of a plurality of actors - public and private - who must be enabled to work together in a scenario that is as realistic as possible.

It is one of the most interesting and challenging activities of our work: it requires strategic vision, attention to detail, mediation skills and a deep knowledge of decision-making mechanisms in emergency contexts.

In this case, we will take care of the design of the entire exercise: from the definition of the objectives, to the communication plan to the population, from the operational coordination of the stakeholders, to briefings and debriefings, to the presence of the observers.

Our TT&A Role Playing Team, the group of role players that we have formed specifically to test the plans for welcoming and assisting families, will also be involved in the simulation and will test the company's family assistance plan.

Real preparation also means preventing an emergency situation, no matter how complicated, from turning into a crisis.

And building, together, more ready, resilient and aware organisations.
